Exposed wooden beams that are not planed but rather rough hewn, and furniture made of logs and irregular shaped branches are main stays of this style. Stone and wood floors are a must for this "cabin in the woods" look you are creating. Upholstery should be earth toned. Straw baskets and wicker furniture are great additions.

The use of antlers for wall decor and chandeliers is common. Rugs should be fake bear skin and blankets should be wool. Motifs of deer, bear, and moose are popular rustic decor accents. Photos of mountains, forests, rivers and lakes make good focal points.

Gardens should be rambling and foliage should not be sculpted in any way. Wild flowers rather than exotics that need weeding are the key to making your garden match your rustic decor.
